10.12.2008 | Hot desk hygiene
Look Ahead is a housing and care organisation that
provides a home, support and stability to around 3500 people across London and the south east. Some members of
staff spend their time on different sites and so there are a number of shared
desks in the main office.
“We get
our offices cleaned every day” says Facilities Manager, Lukan Poponne, “yet
computers are not included and everyone notices that over time they do get
dirty. As we operate a hot desking system hygiene is even more of an issue.”
One of
the first things Lukan did when he arrived at Look Ahead in late 2007 was to
arrange for Capital to clean computers and telephones. “I could see that the
computers were not that great, some keys had dirt ground into them and
keyboards had crumbs underneath. I’d previously worked for the Women’s
Institute and when we began having specialist computer cleaning there it made a
huge difference.”
Lukan
reports that everyone appreciates the improvement. “After our first clean,
people said they’d not realised how bad the computers had become. They noticed,
for example, that keys pushed more easily after they’d been cleaned. With 110
members of staff regularly using 90 computers, shared PC access has definitely
become more pleasant.”
